The 23-year-old, who spent a year in the treatment room following a knee injury, went down unchallenged as he ran through on goal on Tuesday night against Bradford City.

But despite his obvious frustration as he thumped the ground while receiving treatment, Aneke was able to leave the pitch under his own power, and boss Robbie Neilson said the injury isn't as long term as initially feared.

"He's better than we expected," said the manager. "I don't think he'll be ready the weekend, but we've got a free week afterwards. So he'll possibly be back for the following Saturday, and definitely for the midweek after that.

"It's just one of those things. Because he's had a long term injury, his reaction was one of worry that it was something really bad. But he walked off the pitch, he walked back into the stadium yesterday, but he's still in a little bit of pain and we don't expect it to be a long term injury."
