After three cumbersome windows at Stadium MK, Dons have traded the Championship for the bottom end of League 1, and Neilson has found himself with a threadbare squad that lacks depth and options.

"I'm looking to bring in a few people to bolster what we have," said Neilson. "We need to make sure we're moving in the right direction. Recruitment wise, the window is so important for us and I hope to get someone in to help Bobby with that and they can work together.

"And then once the window is done, we will try and build a little unit down there. It's vitally important we have a group going out to watch games and recruiting players, making the best of the situation. It's important to have a structure there, like we already have everywhere else.

"I think the January window is really tough. The rules down here have changed too so it makes the loan market closer as well. It means teams are keeping bigger squads so fewer players are available. So we need to start work as soon as possible to make sure we get things lined up."
