The 36-year-old met with Dons officials on Tuesday to thrash out a deal to see him replace Karl Robinson, who left the club last month.

Neilson will take charge of Hearts for the final time tonight as they take on Rangers at Tynecastle before being confirmed at Dons on Thursday ahead of their FA Cup clash with Charlton Athletic on Saturday - a reunion for former boss Karl Robinson in the dugout for the Addicks.

As part of his backroom staff, Neilson is expected to bring assistant Steven Crawford with him.

Initial reports linked Neilson to an 11th hour approach from Rotherham, but the Millers confirmed they made no such approach for him.
