What should have been a busy weekend ended with a waterlogged pitch on Easter Monday, with their game against AFC Kempston Rovers going the way of the weather.

Newport were never in trouble against a Holbeach side which went into the game at Willen Road full of confidence, having scored nine goals in their previous two outings.

Dom Lawless continued his good scoring run when he fired the Swans into the lead after 21 minutes, latching on to Scott Mulkern’s free kickto score from a tight angle.

Newport doubled their advantage just before the interval when Keith Williams’ deep, floated free kick found Daryl Smith, who powered his header into the net.

It took just nine second half minutes for Newport to wrap it up, with Sam O’Neill being his defender to allow Smith to net his second of the afternoon, putting the game beyond Holbeach.

The visitors got one back nine minutes from time when Sam Coughlan’s shot was parried by Swans keeper Mark Osborn, but Josh Ford was on hand to tap in from two yards.

Town are four points from top spot, sitting third in the standings.
