Dom Lawless netted his 14th goal of the season to move Newport Pagnell Town to within four points of the top of UCL Premier Division with a 1-0 win over Deeping Rangers.
Having lost to Rangers in the reverse fixture earlier this season, the Swans were out for revenge.
The first half was well balanced though, with neither side able to create anything really clear-cut, though the second half saw Newport take the ascendency.
Lawless was sent through on goal by Sam O’Neill’s pinpoint pass midway through the second half, sliding the ball under keeper Danny Bircham to ensure all three points for the home side.
Given AFC Kempston’s 1-1 draw with Northampton Spencer, Leicester Nirvana retake top spot in the division, but Newport are now within four points of the leaders, though have played more games than their title contenders, and indeed most of the division.
Olney Town stay sixth in Division 1 after losing 2-0 to Raunds Town on Saturday.
In SSML Division 1, Ross Stone bagged the only goal for New Bradwell St Peter as they beat Wodson Park 1-0.
In Division 2, Old Bradwell United edged past AFC Hillgate 2-1 thanks to a late Peter Maxey strike, adding to Aaron Bhasin’s eighth minute strike.
