Newport Pagnell's 100 per cent record ends with Eynesbury draw

Fazel Koriya scored twice, both penalties, against Oadby at the weekend

Darren Lynch's side started the UCL Premier Division season in dominant fashion, winning their opening nine games in the league, while only losing two of their cup games.

Their record came under threat on Saturday when they trailed Oadby Town 2-1 at half time only to turn it around and win 3-2. But their record had to come to an end at some stage, and it did on Monday night as they were held by Rovers in a 1-1 draw.

Dom Lawless, once a Swan himself, was the man who came back to haunt Newport on Monday, firing Rovers ahead five minutes before the break. But Lawless' former strike partner Luke Emery pounced on the stroke of half time to draw Newport level.

And so it stayed for the remainder of the game, ending Newport's 100 per cent start, but they remain on top of the table by two points.

Their record could have come tumbling on Saturday when they trailed Oadby, but for a dramatic turnaround in the second half. Lamar Parkes fired the visitors ahead after 27 minutes, but Fazel Koriya pulled Swans level from the penalty spot seven minutes later.

The home side would go in trailing at the break though as Parkes capitalised on some lazy Newport defending to give his side a 2-1 lead.

With their record in the balance, Newport were a different beast in the second half, and came close through Koriya, Emery and Harry Stratton. But they would have to remain patient and wait until the 68th minute when Aniyah King brought down Stratton for Newport's second penalty, duly slotted home by Koriya to draw level at 2-2.

Five minutes later, Newport took the lead and the three points when Adam Pryke poked home the winner.
