Newport Pagnell’s FA Vase campaign was ended in extra time in the first qualifying round on Saturday as they went down 2-o at home to AFC Kempston.
The Swans almost made the perfect start but for the woodwork saving Kempston not once but twice in a goal-less first half.
The second period was a much sloppier affair, but one which saw Kempston on top, though Newport nearly pinched it at the end, though the loose ball deflected off a Kempston thigh and onto the bar.
It took just four minutes of extra time before Shane Bush fired the Walnut Boys ahead. As Newport sought out an equaliser, they were caught out again when Adam Pryke tried to cut out Dom Marsala’s cross, but put into his own net.
It was better news for Newport Pagnell’s U18s though, as they progressed to the next round of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday.
Two goals from Kelvin Adjei and a strike from Matthew Butler helped the young Swans to a 3-2 win over Uxbridge.
