Newport sliding down the table

Newport Pagnell Town have slipped to second from bottom of the UCL Premier League after another defeat, this time against Northampton Sileby Rangers.

Their fourth league loss in a row, and their fifth in all competitions, came courtesy of three second half Sileby strikes in the 3-0 win.

Swans keeper Josh McAdoo was having a busy afternoon but was keeping the visitors in it, keeping out efforts from Hayden Breams, Karabo Motshweni and Ryan Baxter.

At the other end, Scott Mulkern came closest to opening the scoring for Newport, but he hit just wide.

But Sileby left it late to earn the win, as Liam Merryweather was sent clear to lob keeper McAdoo with 20 minutes to go.

Newport almost got level through by Steve Brookes saw his shot blocked.

Moments later though, Sileby doubled the lead through Tom Glasscoe.

Despite their best efforts, Swans couldn’t break down the defence, and were caught out again when Merryweather struck a third.

Olney Town booked a place in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup with a 7-2 win over Aston Clinton, but couldn’t carry their form into Division 1, losing 3-0 to Northampton Spencer on Tuesday night.

Old Bradwell’s cup campaign came to an end though, losing 2-1 to Chalfont Wasps.

In Spartan Midlands Division 2, New Bradwell St Peter lost 2-1 at home to The 61 FC (Luton) and sit ninth in the table.

Willen meanwhile were on the wrong end of an 81 thumping at the hands of Kent Athletic, and sit second from bottom, above Old Bradwell.
