No signs of Dan's plan after another Dons failure

League 2 looks an almost certainty as MK Dons lost again on Saturday, with the almost incredulous stat of eight games without a win under manager Dan Micciche.

His appointment was a gamble, irrespective of the views of both the manager and chairman. Micciche had no first team know-how when he stepped into the MK Dons technical area a little over a month ago, and the run of form - just two points from a possible 21 under his tenure - almost reflects that inexperience.

Fans and staff were out in force on Saturday morning to ensure Stadium MK was safe for the game to go ahead amidst the snow and ice. Their hard work, sweat and toil wasn't rewarded in the least as yet another one goal defeat brought about a chorus of boos - there aren't many left convinced by the appointment either.

After losing to Bristol Rovers, Micciche's tact changed in his press conference. Whereas before he 'had a plan' and insisted results would come with a confidence in his voice, his postmortem began to sound more like lashing out at the previous regime for leaving him with the shattered remains of a team.

Injuries and suspensions hit at this time of year, and there's no doubting Micciche has been unlucky with the players he has been without. But his side do not shoot, they don't take their chances, they aren't scoring goals - they're in the fast lane to League 2. It's not all Micciche's fault, but he took on the challenge knowingly and he must shoulder the responsibility as every football manager must when their side are in dire straits.

Micciche is still new to the job, the trade, the industry and is still trying to keep everyone on his side, almost patronisingly so. However, now more than ever, he needs to light a rocket under his side. He needs to leave them thinking, under no uncertain terms, he is the man in charge, the man who will do everything in his power to keep Dons in League 1, irrespective of egos and personalities. Being nice hasn't worked so far.

There are 11 games left this season - 11 games to rescue MK Dons' League 1 status. There are three home games in a row after next Saturday's trip to Bradford City, and if Dons come away from those games without two wins at the very least, Micciche's status as manager must surely go the way of the team.
