It has been a breahthrough season for Dons youngsters David Kasumu and Sam Nombe this season.

The duo have gone from occasional inclusions to first team regulars under both Paul Tisdale and Russell Martin, and have signed extended contracts to remain at Stadium MK.

Having established themselves in the academy together, Nombe and Kasumu are room-mates on away days too. Nombe, who put pen to paper on his new deal on Monday, said coming into the first team alongside his friend has made it easier to settle in.

"It's good to have someone to relate to but it's also good to be alongside someone I know so well and have been with for so long. We've pushed each other on to try and establish ourselves in the first team.

"It's a really good feeling when we're on the pitch together. He's my room-mate too! We're often playing Uno and battling it out. He's done brilliantly this season – I'm proud of him.

"It's been a big season for me. It's been great to get minutes and games under my belt and to be around the first team environment much more. The staff and the players have been great and helped me through this season.

"I still have lots of areas to improve and I know I have much more to bring. I want to be much more consistent with my performances too. I'm just really pleased to be here at MK Dons."

It's not all football for Nombe's academy team-mates though. Former team-mate Finn Tapp won Love Island last month after being released by the club last summer.

Nombe added: "I never thought he'd go on the show to be honest, but seeing him on there, he looked so comfortable. He showed himself in a really positive light and he handled himself with so much class and respect. That's exactly who he is. We're pleased for him."
