'Non-issue' Aneke stamps authority on Dons performance

Chuks Aneke's could not have made a better return to the MK Dons fold on Tuesday night, drawing a line under the speculation linking him to a move away from Stadium MK last month.

The 25-year-old was heavily tipped to leave the club throughout the transfer and loan windows, barely training with Paul Tisdale's squad in a bid to leave.

But with no move materialising for him when the loan window closed on Friday night, Aneke was forced to rejoin his team-mates on the field in the Checkatrade Trophy against Posh. And he certainly left his mark.

Netting after just six minutes into his return, Aneke added a second just before the half time interval before narrowly missing out on his hat-trick before coming off with 20 minutes to go.

Speaking afterwards, manager Tisdale said Aneke's turbulent opening month to the season is now water under the bridge.

"Football moves on very quickly," he said. "You can't take umbrage, you cannot close any door and it was the perfect opportunity tonight. He has been training and there we are. It is now a non-issue. The drama is over, the window is closed and he's here.

"He listened, he was receptive to everything we said and he worked really hard with Rhys Healey and Ryan Watson in that position behind them.

"He scored two wonderful goals today and came close to a third. For someone who hasn't played for a while, he played 70 minutes and put his stamp on the game today."
