Opportunity to captain Dons surprised Alex Gilbey
The former Colchester skipper joined Dons on deadline day, and in just his seventh appearance for his new club, was told to lead out the team at Gigg Lane in the absence of Dean Lewington and George Williams - a game Dons won 2-0.
“It was massive for me,” Gilbey told Reddot. “It didn’t even cross my mind that I’d be captain - I was just preparing for the game as normal and the gaffer pulled me aside and told me.

“I’ve been captain before, at Colchester, and I’ve learned the hard way having gone through some tough times there.
“To come here and captain the team this soon is huge for me.
“I’ll just take it on and look forwards. I’m really enjoying my football.
“I’ve been consistent and I’ve had some positive comments on social media to, which is always nice.”
