Pennock wants Gillingham to drag Dons into relegation dogfight

Gillingham boss Ady Pennock is aiming to drag MK Dons into the thick of the Sky Bet League One relegation battle when the two teams clash this weekend.

The Gills are in deep trouble at the wrong of the table, as they sit 19th, just three points above the drop zone.

The two teams below them, Port Vale and Shrewsbury, both have games in hand that, if they win, will see them leapfrog Gillingham.

But a positive Pennock, who saw his team lose to a last-gasp Peterborough strike last weekend, is instead concentrating his team on catching those above them, including the Dons.

A Gills win at Stadium MK this weekend will see the Kent side move level on points with Robbie Neilson’s men, and Pennock said: “It is a massive game for us on Saturday, we know that, because of the situation we are in.

“Hopefully the result will kick us on for the following five games.

“We are going to give it our all on Saturday.

“We know we can get back-to-back wins, and we know we can win games; It is alright saying it, but it is a case of doing it.

“We can’t carry anyone on Saturday, we all have to turn up.

“If we get the three points it will give the whole squad a massive boost, and we will be level on points with MK Dons.”
