Robbie Muirhead celebrates his first goal for MK Dons

It has taken time for the young Scot to settle and find his feet at Stadium MK, but making five consecutive starts, Muirhead is beginning to show what he was brought to the club to do.

Last week in the 0-0 draw with Port Vale, he missed an excellent chance to net his first for Dons - a goal which would have earned all three points at Vale Park.

But against Gillingham, he didn't need a second invitation, netting just five minutes into the game.

Muirhead's strike sailed into the top corner.

"It has been playing on my mind all week," he said. "If I scored last week, we'd have won the game 1-0, but this week I was just happy to score.

"I think in the last couple of game I was over-complicating it. I still get nervous before the games, but I think today I went out there and was able to express myself.

"I've only just turned 21, I've played more than 100 games but I'm still learning my trade. I feel like there's a lot more to come."

The 21-year-old became Robbie Neilson's first signing in January when he followed his former boss from Hearts, but didn't score his first goal for the club until five minutes into the game against Gills, and it was certainly worth waiting for.

Muirhead went on to turn in a man of the match winning performance in the dramatic 3-2 win, and it completed just about the best day for the striker/

He added: "It topped off the day for me, with the goal too. The three points are the most important thing for me though was the three points."

And his goal drew praise from the manager who brought him not only to Dons, but previously to Hearts as well.

Neilson added: "Robbie's strike was great, I know he's got that. We all know he's a good player, and we've seen that from him but there's a lot more to come. He's only a kid but he has some great attributes."
