Posh boss knew of Martin's managerial potential
Russell Martin was destined to become a football manager from early on in his career, according to the manager who signed him back in 2008.
Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson picked up 22-year-old Martin from Wycombe Wanderers after securing promotion to League One, and made him the captain of his side as Posh went on to back-to-back promotions to the Championship.

Hide AdMartin departed for Norwich City after 14 months at London Road, but both he and Ferguson have remained in touch since and will cross paths as managers for the first time on Tuesday night when Peterborough visit Stadium MK.
From early on in their relationship though, Ferguson said he knew Martin would end up in the dugout but does not want to give his former captain any help ahead of tonight's clash.
“Of all the players I’ve managed Russell is the one I always thought would become a manager,” Ferguson said. “He was a great player for us and a great professional who went on to have an outstanding career.
“I’ve kept in touch with him. He’s a great lad and it will be good to catch up with tomorrow, and beat him!”
