With the club now eight points adrift in the race for safety with just 15 left on offer, Dons are almost certainly facing an immediate return to League 1, compounded by their fourth defeat in a row.

Speaking afterwards, when asked what the future holds, Robinson said: “I think I know... I do know. That will be a conversation we will have internally.

“It’ll be between me and the chairman to get it right, if that’s what the chairman wants.”

Dons trailed after just 54 seconds to a Matt Derbyshire goal, before Cody Cropper gave away a penalty 15 minutes later, allowing Leon Best to double the advantage.

Dons looked life-less throughout, and their misery was added to with second half goals from Kirk Broadfoot and Richie Smallwood giving the Millers a comfortable 4-0 win.

Left with a mountain to climb, Robinson refused to give up.

He said: “You’re never going to get a yes (it’s over), but it will be extremely difficult now. And we only have ourselves to blame. We can’t point fingers, we will look and dissect it.

“It’s hard, we’re in a difficult predicament. We’re so close. The scoreline flatters them, but if you don’t take your chances and make errors, you get punished. We’ve got to take the criticism like men.

“The league table says we’re not good enough to stay in this league. How you get there is the argument in the pub, the debates you have with your mates.

“There’s not a lack of effort or desire, we didn’t stop. We kept going even when the odds were stacked against us.

“We were the better team between the two boxes by far. But we get judged by what goes on in the two boxes. Going forward, you have to take your chances, in games of this magnitude, you have to take your chances.”
