The 23-year-old Pole suffered damage to both the cruciate and lateral knee ligaments after a challenge from Dons defender Antony Kay on the stroke of half time at stadium:mk on Tuesday night. Zyro also has a fracture on the inside of his knee and is expected to be out for more than a year. Kay was booked for the tackle.

Robinson said physio Simon Crampton has been in contact with the Wolves medical staff to keep up-to-date with Zyro’s condition, and has since spoken to the Wolves manager.

“I got the call yesterday to tell me the extent of the injury,” he said. “I’ve spoken to Kenny and hoped the boy has a speedy recovery.

“Everyone steps on the field with an unpredictability of what might happen. We’ve had Rob Hall, George Williams and Samir Carruthers all have similar injuries in the last few years, so I know how hard it can be.

“I was devastated when I found out, and I hope he has a healthy recovery and he comes back to fulfil his potential. At no stage did I see that coming.

“You don’t go into a tackle to endanger anyone, but he was milliseconds late. There will be an anger there against us, there always is when these things happen. But there’s nothing more I can say than I offer him a speedy recover.”
