The 33-year-old, making his first appearance since January 2, stepped up in the final minute after winning the penalty, but sent it wide as Dons lost 2-1 at stadium:mk and dropped into the relegation zone.

Despite having proven calibre from the spot, Baker said it was a ‘schoolboy’ mistake to change his mind so late on.

“It was a poor penalty,” he admitted. “It was schoolboy stuff really, all the experience I have I should have known not to change my mind at the last minute.

“It happens, but I feel as a professional player, you should always score penalties, to be honest.

“I knew in all of the build-up where I wanted to put it and then changed my mind in my run up. I didn’t get a good connection.

“I’ll take it on the chin, and all I can do now is put in the performances and hopefully more goals before the end of the season. That’ the only way I’ll forget about it to be honest.”
