Sam Ricketts has been sacked by Shrewsbury Town the morning after drawing 2-2 with MK Dons.

The Shrews were leading 2-0, having scored after just 30 seconds through Shaun Whalley before Marc Pugh doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half. However, Carlton Morris and Cameron Jerome drew Dons level with 20 minutes to go, and they had chances to win it - which had looked unlikely for the first hour.

Ricketts was furious with the referee afterwards, claiming offside decisions prevented his side from going 4-0 up at the interval.

He said: "I'd like the referee to come out. He should come and speak to you. Two goals in the first half ruled out that were well onside, and I mean well onside, that puts you 4-0 up.

"Going 2-0 up I thought we were excellent, should've been at least 4-0 up because the two goals were onside - it changes games.

"We don't seem to be getting any decisions, and I'm not talking an inch onside, I'm talking yards, it's unbelievable and I think they should be made to be accountable."

It proved to be the final straw for Ricketts though, who was sacked by Shrewsbury on Wednesday morning.

A club statement read: "Shrewsbury Town Football Club can confirm this morning that the Club has parted company with Manager Sam Ricketts and Assistant Manager Dean Whitehead.

"The club would like to place on record our thanks and acknowledge their hard work and dedication to STFC and the community and wish them all the best in the future."
