With Portsmouth’s involvement in the FA Cup, Dons’ fixture at Fratton Park has been rearranged for Tuesday February 25, so the club has a watching brief this Saturday.

Assistant manager Luke Williams confirmed some players will be given a rest at the weekend, without a training schedule, while others will be given training programmes to keep their fitness up.

He said: “It has been a really busy schedule and I think in the next game, we’ll know whether it has helped us or not. We’re trying to make best use of the time now, and prepare for the next home game on Tuesday.

“Some will rest at the weekend, and some will do more to try and get up to the speed we need them to be.”

“The schedule will be tailored to how much each player has done. For some, the best thing they can do is rest because the schedule has been incredible.

“Training facilities have been difficult. Pitches have been very heavy, we’re moving from one surface to another. That may sound trivial, but it’s really not. When the guys are pounding the pitch, the surface makes a huge difference.

“If you went to walk around the shops in stilettos, you might struggle the first time – you might get laughed at as well! But the next day you’re in flip-flops, it’s that different.”
