Still no movement for Dons in the 'distracting' transfer window

"It's a distraction for every manager who wants to complete their squad, but they don't know what they're competing with"

MK Dons' hunt to find a striker before the close of the transfer window next month continues, but Russell Martin admitted there has been no movement on that front this week.

Having added 10 to his squad this summer, Dons are still in the market for a goal-scorer to replace departed Rhys Healey though are finding the market tricky to negotiate of late, having had no joy with a transfer record-breaking bid earlier this month.

When asked if there was any movement in proceedings, he said: "Not at the moment. We're working on it, we'll have to wait and see as and when it happens. I'm so happy with the business we have done. If I can get another one in, I'll be really happy but our signings have already strengthened us."

For Martin, aside from answering the question at every press conference, the distraction of the transfer window is one he is having to deal with, but said every manager is facing a similar task at the moment, especially with the financial contraints on clubs during the coronavirus pandemic

He said: "It's a distraction for every manager who wants to complete their squad, but they don't know what they're competing with, what they can do. They're all waiting on other clubs.

"Ideally, you want it done by the first game so you know where everyone is. We've been given extra time because a lot of clubs don't know where they'll be financially, and the latest news (about fans) will hit some really hard.

"I fear it will be too tough for a lot of clubs at various levels, from non-league right up to our level. We'll have to see how it pans out, but I hope the Macclesfield situation is an outlier and isn't something we see in the next few months. We're fortunate here to have some stability, and it makes selling players recently even more important for the sustainability. "
