Losing Carlton Morris in January has not altered Russell Martin's plans to bring in another centre-forward when the transfer window re-opens in a few days.

The 25-year-old is set to move to the Championship with Barnsley after parent club Norwich agreed a deal with the Tykes, ending his loan-spell at Stadium MK early.

While his departure will leave a hole up front and in the dressing room, Martin said bolstering his front line was always a part of his plan whether they were able to keep hold of Morris or not.

He said: "It was always going to be an area we were looking at. Now we have to go and get the one or two in we really want, not just for the sake of it.

"We need a couple of players at the top end of the pitch to help us out, and someone out wide who can get at people one-on-one and help us with pace which will change the dynamic of our attack a lot.

"I'm delighted with the squad we have, it's a bit smaller than I'd like so we need a bit more depth. The way we plays is so intense, it's hard to play Saturday-Tuesday like we are doing.

"We're going to try and bring someone in with similar attributes and someone who can contribute in the same way Carlton has over the year he has been here. He will be a loss and we will feel that, but we have to move on and adapt.

"We had a really good summer window, but January much harder."

In the meantime, Dons will have to play without Morris - who has made 24 appearances this season - as a key man in their side.

"We changed things around on Saturday to deal with it," Martin continued. "I can't lie and say he won't be missed. We'll feel him missing in the dressing room as well. He plays a huge role bringing others into the game.

"You could see the relationship he and Scott had in and around the box recently, and he and Cammy were starting to forge a good partnership too. But you have to adapt, and we did that on Saturday."
