Losing to Plymouth Argyle 1-0 at Home Park on Saturday was a reflection of MK Dons' campaign so far, according to Andrew Surman.

Ryan Hardie's 68th minute strike - one of only a handful of attempts on goal at either end during a game low on quality - ended Plymouth's six-game losing streak while adding to Dons' poor streak against sides below them in the table this season.

Surman, who came on at half time to replace Lasse Sorensen said losing to Argyle was a familiar tale.

"It has been the story of our season," he said. "A lot of teams we've dominated and been the better team, but they have one or two shots on target and get a goal. It's really disappointing because I think we're a lot better than the league position states – I know it's about results, but I feel we're better than that.

"I don't think we weren't at our best in the first half, but we came in 0-0 at half time and at the start of the second half looked the better team. Their goal was a sucker punch really, they didn't get near our goal in that second half.

"We got into good positions, but they made it difficult to be fair and credit to them they defended well but we should really be coming in at full time 0-0 saying we've got a point. To lose 1-0 again is really frustrating and everyone is hurting."

The result also saw Dons drop back to 17th in the standings, falling below Argyle. Surman though said: "Anyone who looks from the outside will think we're struggling. We're playing well we just haven't come away with the result we deserve. We're playing some good attractive football, we have to turn those into results at the moment.

"We're so close to being a top team, it's just trying to make the final bit click. We're dealing with such fine margins. We'll be judged on results, but the journey is top drawer – we just have to keep believing in it."
