After his manager expressed a desire to keep him next season, Andrew Surman said he will wait until the summer before deciding his future.

The 34-year-old former Bournemouth man signed for Dons in November on a short-term deal until the middle of January before extending his contract until the end of the current campaign.

Having made 15 appearances this season, Martin admitted he was eager to keep the midfielder next term too, but Surman said he has a lot to consider before penning another deal at Stadium MK.

He explained: "I've really enjoyed my time here and that's why I extended until the end of the season straight away. It's something I'll have to think about in the summer, because there's a lot for me to think about personally and for my family. I'm not saying yes, I'm not saying no, it's a bridge we'll cross in the summer. Hopefully it will continue longer."

Surman is only a few weeks from signing his last contract extension, having done so in January, but within days of doing so, suffered a hamstring injury at Peterborough which ruled him out of four games.

"Russ said I must've been waiting to sign that deal before getting injured!" Surman said. "I had a bit of a hamstring strain which was really frustrating because when you sign a new deal, you want to get going and want to get into a rhythm but I'm glad to be back now and hopefully I can stay injury-free for the rest of the season."

Making the switch from the Premier League, where he was plying his trade a year ago, to League One football has been an easier shift than Surman expected because of the style of football Dons play.

"It has been an easy transition for me because of the way we play," he continued. "If I'd have gone into a team that wanted to shell it down the pitch every week, it would have been a massive culture shock because it's not what I've been used to.

"Coming from Bournemouth, who like to play in the right way in my opinion, coming to a club who want to play even more so, it has been quite an easy transition."
