Swans back in the UCL title fight

Newport Pagnell Town returned to winning ways on Saturday as they beat Sleaford Town 2-0 at Willen Road.

After a shock 3-2 defeat last time out to Boston Town, the Swans capitalised on Sleaford Town’s win over leaders Leicester Nirvana earlier in the week to move within five points of the top of the UCL Premier Division .

Given Sleaford’s win over Nirvana, Newport were expecting a tough afternoon, but got quite the opposite as they cruised to a comfortable victory.

Having missed a few chances, Newport eventually took the lead in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time, as Dom Lawless scored his first of the afternoon, tapping in from close range after Fazel Koriya’s shot was parried into his path.

Koriya was the provider for Lawless’ second of the day with 21 minutes remaining to wrap up all three points for the home side.

Late in the day, reserve keeper Joe Pursell was forced to play outfield due to an injury to Sam O’Neill.
