Controlling the first half, Newport were rewarded with the opener after 15 minutes when Dom Lawless slotted home Sam O’Neill’s slide-rule pass.

Rangers were level eight minutes into the second half though, when Charlie Coulson’s inch perfect free kick was headed home by Luke Hunnings.

But with little to choose between the sides, the defences remained on top.

Newport remain fifth in the UCL Premier Division, a point above Deeping.
