It was hardly a game for the neutral, with neither side able to hold on the to ball in the first half, with both squandering possession easily.

The second half looked to be heading in a similar direction, though Desborough were carving themselves decent opportunities, but through a combination of good goalkeeping, goal line clearances and poor finishing they failed to convert any of them.

The Swans, however, only had two decent chances, both resulting from defensive lapses, and scored both to take all three points. Paul Edgeworth gave Town the lead after 57 minutes before Fazel Koriya doubled it with 15 minutes to go.

Newport stay third in the table, having won five of their last six, but close the gap to Leicester Nirvana to four points.

In Division 1, Olney Town’s eight game winning streak came to an end on Saturday when they went down 1-0 to Bourne Town to stay eighth in the table.

In the Reserve Division, Olney Reserves’ 1-0 defeat to Rushden & Higham Reserves saw them drop from second to third in the order.
