Manager Darren Lynch warned his side of complacency after their historic FA Vase run, and it looked like they were back in business when Luke Emery tapped in after four minutes when Sam O’Neill’s shot was dropped by Dan George in the Star net.

Darryl Smith almost doubled the head, but was thwarted by George’s fantastic save, making up for his earlier mistake.

But Star were level before half time when Wilkins Makate picked up a loose ball in midfield, allowed him to run on unchallenged before bending the ball past Mark Osborn with the outside of his boot.

The visitors almost took the lead early in the second half Adam Pryke cleared one off the line, before seeing a late header tipped onto the post by George as Newport’s barren run in the league was stretched to two wins in 10 - a run which sees them 10th in UCL Premier Division.

On Saturday, they host Binfield in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup semi final.
