Swans stay in title hunt as Olney keep winning

Newport Pagnell Town kept up the pressure on UCL Premier Division's top two with a 2-1 win over Yaxley at Willen Road on Saturday.

Extending their undefeated run to four matches, the Swans sit just four points behind the leading duo.

Despite dominating proceedings in the first half, they had to wait until 12 minutes after half time before they took the lead, courtesy of Darryl Smith’s deflected effort after beating two defenders to give them the lead.

The lead lasted just 12 minutes though as Daniel Cotton’s thunderous strike was adjudged to have crossed the line having rattled the underside of the bar.

Newport were only level for five minutes though, as Fazel Koriya got the final touch on a goal-mouth scramble to restore their lead.

In Division 1, Olney Town made it eight league wins on the bounce with a very comfortable 3-0 win at Wellingborough Whitworths.

Aaron Murrell opened the scoring on the half hour mark, before Danny Webb made it 2-0 with 20 minutes remaining. Murrell got his second of the game making it 3-0 with five minutes to go.

Despite being docked three points this season, Olney’s spectacular run has seen them leap up the table to eighth in Division 1.
