Newport Pagnell Town quickly overcame a narrow 3-2 defeat to Wisbech on the opening day of the UCL Premier Division season by beating Wellingborough 4-3 on Tuesday.
The disappointment of defeat lasted just two minutes at the Dog and Duck as Josh Crawley fired Newport ahead.
Jack Newman equalised for the Doughboys, but parity lasted just three minutes as Crawley restored the Swans’ lead.
Wellingborough missed a penalty before Fazel Koriya netted his second of the season to give Newport a two-goal cushion just before the hour mark.
The home side were back in with a shout when Nathan Burrows pulled one back with 20 minutes to go, but Koriya made it 4-2 to Newport three minutes later.
Substitute Justin Dowling made it 4-3 with seven minutes to go, but Newport were able to hold on to take their first win of the season.
It came after a similarly narrow game with Wisbech on the opening day of the season.
Danny Beaumont turned in the 27th minute opener for the Fenmen, with Stuart Cobb’s 39th minute chip doubling the Wisbech lead.
Sam O’Neill put Newport back in the game after 41 minutes and then they were on level terms three minutes past the hour through a neat finish by Koriya.
Wisbech won it with a curling shot into the far corner from Billy Smith after 72 minutes.
After two games, Newport sit 11th in the UCL Premier Division table, and are yet to play at Willen Road in the league.
And they’ll have to wait for that privilege as they take on Holmer Green on Saturday as their road to Wembley gets under way in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round. Kick off is at 3pm.
