The Championship is harsh - Revell

Despite leading through Revell’s 28th minute header, and seeing the visitors reduced to 10 men barely three minutes into the second half after Philip Billing’s sending off, Huddersfield were able to snatch a late equaliser through Nahki Wells five minutes from time to share the spoils at stadium:mk.

Having suffered a similar fate two weeks earlier against Middlesbrough, Revell Dons must pick themselves up from yet another disappointing result and learn from their mistakes to ensure they don’t continue to happen.

“It’s disappointing and it’s hard to take,” he said afterwards. “The draw with Middlesbrough was easier to take because they had a few chances and they’re at the top of the table. It’s difficult to take today because we played so well in the first half. We should have been further ahead, and it made it easier for them.

“We’re still learning. This Championship is a harsh league and you get punished when you make a mistake. As long as we learn, we can take it into Saturday. Our first half performance was one of the best I’ve seen since joining.”

Despite dominating the first half, Dons failed to build a lead bigger than Revell’s solitary goal. But with substitute Billing sent off within three minutes of his half-time arrival, Huddersfield were the more dangerous side in the second half.

“I don’t know why it happens like that,” Revell added. “Sometimes you rush to get it forward because you think it’s easier to score. It’s strange because it happens so often.

“We stopped doing what we were doing well. We’ve got some experience in this team now, and we need to get together and stop the nervousness.

“Maybe it’s because we are where we are in the league - a win today would move us much further from danger. But the gaffer will move us on, he’s very good at that.”

Revell netted his first goal for the club, meeting Jonny Williams’ cross to nod home the opener after some great build-up play.

And getting his first goal in Dons colours is a relief for him.

He said: “It was a great bit of play and Jonny Williams put in a great ball. My eyes lit up - it was like Christmas, Easter and my birthday all at once!

“It’s nice to get the goal, and it settles you as a centre forward. It’s great to get the first goal. Performances help, but you’re judged on goals and hopefully it’s just the start.”

But despite the disappointment of the result, Revell believes looking back later in the season, the point will be an important one in the battle against the drop.

He added: “Results have gone our way tonight, and that’s not always going to happen. We need to go out and get results, and if we do, we’ll stay up, and it’s what we all want and deserve. Maybe later, we can look back and see this as a positive result.

“We were excellent in the first half. If it weren’t for the blocks and saves, it could have been even more. The first half was a massive positive. We need to take that mentality into Saturday.

“If we can go to Blackburn and get a win, we don’t look at this result as negatively. I’m sure if we’re 1-0 up in the final 10 minutes on Saturday, the ball will be put into Row Z.”
