There's plenty more to come from Harvey Barnes, says Neilson

The Leicester City youngster joined on loan until the end of the season from the Premier League champions in a bid to gain first team experience.

Having played only a handful of matches in senior football, Barnes showed no signs of stage frights when he scored barely five minutes after making his Dons debut in the 5-3 win over Northampton, only to make it two in two against Peterborough seven days later.

And after being rested against Oldham, Barnes made an impact from the bench as Dons snatched a 1-0 win stoppage time.

"Harvey has come here for experience and he's going great for us," said Neilson. "As young player coming in, they're not always used to how quick the game is."

Barnes joined less than 24 hours after Neilson announced his first January signing, that of Robbie Muirhead. The former Hearts striker has struggled to make an impact so far, and along with fellow striker Maecky NGombo, failed to impress against Oldham in their first starts for the club.

But Neilson stated from the start that Muirhead was one for the future, and believes people should reserve judgement on his young signings.

"There's a big difference in the way a game starts and the way a game finishes," he added. "Teams are a lot more organised at the start, so it can be harder for younger players to get a foothold in the game, so it is sometimes easier for players to come on later in the day when it's a bit more open."
