Midfielder Louis Thompson will see a specialist today (Monday) to assess the extent of the injury he suffered against Sunderland on Saturday, but also how they can prevent it from happening again.

The 26-year-old was out for 10 weeks after a hamstring injury, also against Sunderland, back in November, but after just four appearances, felt it go again on Saturday though it is thought not to be as bad as last time.

With Thompson suffering lengthy injury spells out of the side - already up to his third this season - Martin is eager to find a solution to ensure he's able to feature on the pitch more regularly than in the treatment room and hopes seeing the specialist will help that.

"Louis is seeing a specialist today to get a scan," said the manager. "He doesn’t feel it’s as bad as last time.

"We need to get to the root of it because it’s the same one. We’ll wait to hear the results so we hope to have news soon.

"It’s a blow for him because he was looking great for us. We’ve looked at it and there is no real pattern. I want him to recover as quick as possible because he can add to us but we want to make sure he can avoid it again."

Meanwhile, David Kasumu's return is unlikely to happen against Rochdale tomorrow (Tuesday) and Saturday's trip to Hull pencilled in for that instead.

Martin said: "David is closer to the weekend than he is tomorrow night. Because it’s his first injury it’s different. It’s a hard one to manage because they don’t know how it should feel. We thought he’d be ready for AFC Wimbledon but he wasn’t right, We’ve a huge amount of trust in our medical team so when Simon says he’s ready – he will be.

"He’s running and joining in a few bits with the team and will be ready fairly soon."
