Wanderers win is a priority for Dons

Having beaten Reading 1-0 last Saturday, Dons followed it up with a 3-0 win over Northampton Town on Tuesday night in their FA Cup third round replay to set up the Hollywood tie against Chelsea Premier League champions Chelsea.

With Bolton languishing at the bottom of the Championship table, and narrowly avoiding administration this week, Karl Robinson’s side visit the Macron Stadium at a crucial time for both sides. While Dons will be looking to make it three wins in a row to maximise momentum going into the game with Chelsea next weekend, Bolton will be just as keen to put their off-the-field problems behind them with a win over one of their relegation rivals .

While the Chelsea game is an enormous carrot at the end of the stick for Dons, Robinson knows the result at Bolton will hold far greater significance in the grand scheme of things.

“We go into the game off the back of two clean sheets scoring four goals. It’s what I class as a winning run,” said Robinson.

“If we win on Saturday, we could drag Blackburn and Fulham into the fight. It’s increasingly important we win on Saturday, and we can put things in our own hands.

“Our away performances have been excellent, but our results have matched sometimes. We’re excited about going there.

“It’s not the biggest individual game, but we understand the enormity of the challenge.

“It’ll be one of the biggest weeks in the club’s history. We’ll look back on this week very fondly if we can look back on six points and a bit of a war chest to bring players in. I’m asking for one more big drive from the players.

“After Burnley, it’s important to keep our momentum going.

“I’ve been so impressed with everyone’s attitude. We don’t like losing football matches. With everything going against us, we’re keeping our heads above water.”
