Watch Newport Pagnell Town's goal of the season contender in emphatic win

One of the goals of the season was scored in Newport Pagnell Town’s emphatic 7-0 win over Yaxley on Saturday.

Ben Ford scored a sensational volley to bag the Swans’ sixth of the afternoon on a day which also saw hat-tricks for Jake Watkinson and Corvell Pickering at Willen Road.

Leading 5-0, Ford leapt in the air to bring the ball under control on his chest midway inside the Yaxley half, controlling it with his left-foot before unleashing an unstoppable volley over the keeper’s head to spark wild celebrations from the Green Army.

It capped a stunning afternoon for Gary Flinn’s side. The afternoon got off to a flying start, with two goals in the opening 14 minutes to put the Swans in complete control. Watkinson got the first of the day after just ten minutes when he nodded in Robbie Goodman’s cross, before Pickering then doubled the lead four minutes later after being teed up by Watkinson.

As Newport cruised through the opening half, a quick-fire double just before the break effectively wrapped up the game, with Pickering slotting home his second on 44 minutes before, in stoppage time, he returned the earlier favour by putting one on a plate for Watkinson’s second.

The Swans continued to create chances in the second-half but the scoreline was being kept civil by the Yaxley keeper. With 15 minutes to go though, the floodgates were opened again when Pickering burst through from half-way to round the keeper and secure his hat-trick.

It could have been the goal of the day but for Ford’s stunner with five minutes to go, which made it 6-0, before Watkinson headed in at the near post in stoppage time at the end to also complete his hat-trick and the rout with it.

Newport sit eighth in UCL Premier Division South, and take on 10th place Hinckley AFC away on Saturday.
