We need to be men, says scorer Revell

Despite scoring his second in as many games for Dons, the striker said he felt sick having thrown away, initially, the lead against Blackburn and then the chance of a point as Jordi Gomez’s stoppage time free kick won it 3-2 for Rovers.

Having conceded late against Huddersfield on Tuesday night to let slip their chance of victory, it was a case of another late goal costing them dearly, and Revell says the time for excuses is over.

“We need to be men, because this league will punish you,” he said. “We’ve got to learn from the mistakes and actually take it on.

“All I want is for us to stay up. Everyone wants to stay up. That’s why it’s so sickening, a result like this. We all work hard during the week, but we’ve come here and got punished.

“In League 1, we probably wouldn’t have been punished, and that’s where we need to learn.

“I said on Tuesday we need to learn. But we can’t keep saying it - we have to sit down and realise it needs addressing. We can’t come away and carry on the same way next Saturday.

“We have to correct what we’re doing wrong and work hard because it’s another hard week coming.”

Dons took the lead through Samir Carruthers in the first half in a game they controlled until half time. But a rejuvenated Blackburn side came back in the second period and equalised through Gomez’s header before Elliott Bennett capitalised from Dons’ failure to clear to put Rovers ahead with 19 minutes to go.

Revell’s second goal for the club came with four minutes remaining and looked enough to salvage a point at Ewood Park, but Gomez’s stoppage time free kick earned all three points for Blackburn.

Revell said: “The first half was similar to Huddersfield - we dominate possession and the ball and we scored a great goal.

“And then in the second period we knew what we were going to get. Blackburn used their strengths in the second half and it was hard to deal with, they’re a big side, but we haven’t dealt with the second ball. We haven’t reacted quick enough for the first two goals.

“We got back in the game with a couple of chances, but we’ve let it go late on. We felt it was harsh, but we’re going to say that.

“It’s a sickener, and it’s hard for everyone to take. We didn’t deserve that. If we’d have taken a point home, we’d all be happy. But we weren’t happy because we deserved more.

“We should be scoring more goals with the chances we can create.”
