'˜We'll be out of the drop zone in two weeks' says Dons boss

The 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton had a bit of everything, with Brighton going 2-0 ahead through Tomer Hemed’s brace, including a penalty he won and converted.

Antony Kay continued his great run in the side by pulling one back for Dons before Kyle McFadzean saw red for clashing with Hemed with 19 minutes to go.

Carl Baker went on to miss a stoppage time penalty for Dons as they were leapfrogged by Rotherham, who picked up an unlikely 1-0 win over Ipswich at Portman Road to leave Robinson’s side in the bottom three.

With the international break meaning Dons now aren’t in action until April 2 with a crucial clash with fellow relegation candidates Fulham, Robinson feels his side will go to Craven Cottage and get a result.

“We’ll be out of it two weeks today. We’re going to fight for everything. If we’ve got to be like every other team in the league, kicking balls away, going down, then so be it.

“I believe they can achieve, this year. I don’t think anyone shirked responsibility.”

One of the game’s biggest talking points came when Kyle McFadzean was sent off for a clash with Hemed shortly after Dons got back into the game courtesy of Kay’s header.

McFadzean had moments earlier been booked after a scuffle with Brighton keeper David Stockdale, and though his collision with Hemed earned him a straight red card, Robinson feels it only warranted a booking though the outcome would remain the same.

Robinson said: “(Stockdale) has grabbed Kyle by the throat, but stupidly Kyle has reacted. At some stage he has to relinquish the ball.

“He has been sent off for an elbow. But I know he didn’t do it. I would say it was a yellow, and it would’ve been his second. But I’ve got video evidence of Lewis Dunk doing it to Nicky Maynard three times in the first half. They’ve collided. It’s just what defenders do.

“It was slightly aggressive from Kyle, but he’s done it all season and hasn’t been penalised for it once.

“A number of times, the referee lost control of the game.”

On the whole, despite losing on the day, Robinson felt his side deserved at least a point against a side who climbed into the Championship top two.

He added: “I thought we were the better team. We got hit a few times on the counter, and conceded a penalty, but from then on we were very good. Our energy, determination and desire was excellent.

“Brighton have won the lottery today. But my team were excellent.”
