With the club embroiled in a relegation scrap, three points above the drop zone, Williams says it is hard to enjoy the situation of late, but feels there is too much work to do to reflect.

He said: “At the moment, it’s difficult to reflect because we’re in the middle of the woods and it’s impossible to see the trees.

“I’m driven and motivated, I’ve got very good people around me so it makes the day-to-day easier, but when you’re in this position, nothing is ever easy.

“It’s hard to feel enjoyment and reflect, but at we hope the end of the season we’ll have a lot of things to look back on and to take the good, and put right the bad.”

Despite significantly improved showings since the turn of the year - the 3-0 defeat to Newport County aside - Dons have picked up just one point since New Year’s Day.

Williams said the biggest issues facing Dons at the moment are turning those good performances into points.

Performance wise, there aren’t huge problems, but results-wise, yes we’ve had big problems,” he admited.

“It’s difficult to criticise performances because at Burton we were outstanding. I think we made one mistake in the gameBut over 90 minutes, we were outstanding.

“Then against Sunderland, the first half was very good. The opposition was very strong, we had to spar with them.

“We started to land a few punches in the first half, but it was clearly a lesser performance in the second half.”
