Pete Winkelman admitted he would have stronger feelings about the fate of the rest of the season if Dons were in a promotion or relegation scrap, but is happy to go with the majority when it comes to finishing the campaign.

Dons have nine games remaining, but as the coronavirus pandemic continues to delay a return to normal life, the football season continues to go by the wayside.

And though his side could still be relegated should the season resume, the Dons chairman says he will vote with the majority when it comes to the fate of the remainder of the campaign.

He said: "We have to do what the majority do, and this season, I have less of a strong view than I might otherwise have. If I was in the top six or bottom three, I'd be more vociferous about finishing or not. I want to do what the EFL want to do, and I don't think it is realistic to get people in grounds in time to finish this season. It all depends on timing.

"As soon as it's safe for the players to train and play against each other, even without crowds, that will be good. We'd much rather have people in, but if that cannot be done, we'll do what we can to make it happen.

"If we can finish the season, I definitely would. There's TV money, which isn't that big but it all matters.

"But I don't want to ruin next season. When this is manageable, we all can look forward to a new season of football. I'm one that doesn't want to see it go on forever, but maybe that has to happen. If that's the common view of everyone, then as a member of the EFL that's what we'd have to do.

"If you void the season, it means it didn't happen. All the TV money, season ticket money could become refundable. Voiding would be very difficult. If they ended it, you've got people saying promotion or relegation isn't fully earned. If you do nothing, no movement, that leaves a lot of people upset. We have to finish it if we can."
