LIONS coach Mike New says he’s delighted to have Stefan Gill back at the club for the 2011/12 British Basketball League season.
The 27-year-old Brit was one of the club’s top performers in a poor previous campaign, and was named as one of three crucial re-signings by chief executive Vince Macaulay last month. Travis Nelson and Demarius Bolds are the other two.
The 5ft 10in point guard was the best player in National Division One two seasons ago and in his first year in the BBL solidified his reputation as one of the quickest players at the highest level of the British game.
The former Manchester Magic man is Lions’ first signing for the new season and put pen to paper a couple of days after next season’s fixtures were released – with Lions starting away at Leicester Riders in a BBL trophy tie on October 1.
New said: “I’m delighted to return Stefan, we knew about him and his athletic ability but this past season he really stepped up at the top level.
“After a slow start a couple of 40 point performances showed he was ready for this level offensively.”
