Any hole is a goal at Abbey

England may be out of the World Cup much sooner than we all wanted, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy the beautiful game with another summer pass-time.

Abbey Hill have launched Foot Golf - combining both worlds into a great game that is growing ever-more popular all over the world.

Not just a temporary attraction, Abbey Hill hope to keep up the numbers and make it a permanent fixture on their course.

“It is a sport that has been around for a while,”said Andrew Scholey Abbey Hill’s General Manager.

“We are one of six courses to bring the sport to the UK. It combines two great sports.”

Exactly as it sounds, Foot Golf sees players kicking off, instead of teeing off, with the aim of sinking a football into a 21 inch hole in as few shots as possible.

Open for just a few weeks, Abbey Hill has already seen more than 700 players take on the nine-hole course.

But rather than a ploy to encourage people to the golf course during the World Cup, it has been in the pipeline for a while.

Andrew added: “It’s something we have thought about bringing to Abbey Hill before, and with the World Cup coming up, we acted on impulse and got it open just in time for the first England game.

“And with how popular it has been, I expect it to be made a permanent fixture here.”
