Marcus Goss scored a superb hat-trick as Olney thumped bottom club Stamford 60-0 on Saturday.

The home side needed just eight minutes to open the scoring thanks to Gareth Cahill. Jordan Letts’ boot kicked the conversion and a penalty to make it 10-0 not long after.

The one-sided affair was effectively over by half time. Goss ran in Olney’s second try, befor Sean Mulvey ran in their third on 32 minutes. Cahill added his second of the afternoon, and Letts’ boot made it 27-o at the interval.

Olney needed just three second half minutes to get the scoreboard ticking once again, this time Lloyd Sweeney ran in with Letts converting.

While offering little in attack, the Stamford defence was resolute and held Olney out for the next 15 minutes, but they couldn’t hold out.

Hamish Bull made it 39-0 with Olney’s sixth try, before Goss too added his second and then completed his hat-trick to put the home side 53-0 up.

Sweeney ran in his second of the day to wrap up the routine victory.
