Nearly 400 gymnasts descended upon Orbit last weekend as they played host to the Southern Region Trampoline Grading competition.

At the highest level, 6, Orbit’s over 15 girls were on top form.

Tionne Cumberbatch, Ciara O’Brien and Tess Walker all gave fine performances, separated by margins of tenths. Emily Roxbee Cox began in style, but disaster struck when she performed a move in the wrong order which under the rules cost her a zero score. All four girls gave very good voluntary routines, merging style and difficulty, reaping the rewards, as Orbit swept the podium with Tionne 1st, Ciara 2nd and Tess 3rd. Emily was 18th due to an impossible catch up.

In the male event Ritchie Clarke acquitted himself well to take 5th.

At level 5 in the girls 15+ fortunes contrasted. Lauren McEvaddy managed one of her best performances taking 8th, while Helena Bloomfield could not complete one of her routines, and came in 9th.

Youth was in full cry for Charlie Roberts in the Level 5 13-14 boys, and Millie Heathcote in the 11-12 girls. Both returned top routines, taking 1st and 3rd places.

Four Orbit girls did battle in the Level 4 13+ group, the places being close after the first compulsory routines. After the completion of the voluntaries Milly Cole took 1st, Rebecca Dormer 2nd by a whisper, Lucy Pangbourne 5th and Daniella Toomey 12th places.

At L3 13+ the girls jumped well, but could not reach the podium. Ellie Jayde Billingham was 9th Amy Smith 12th and Daisy Carter 28th.

At L3 boys’ 13+, Ben Gilroy showed the opposition a clean pair of heels, taking 1st place.

Moving to L2, in the 13+ girls Ella Jefferson was 13th and Jayde Latimer 16th in a very tightly bunched event. In the 11-12s girls Lacey Butler came 5th with less than a mark separating the top 5.

Lauren Sinclair gave a good performance in her first grading at L1 in the 9-10 girls holding 8th. In the same group, separated by very small margins Loucie White was 11th and Honey Latter 13th also in their first grading competition.

Up an age group to 11-12 girls, also cutting their teeth at a grading, Sophie Chambers was 13th and Maddie Picot 15th.

In the 13+ group Ella Preedy excelled herself to take 3rd place and Lucy Chambers was a first time 9th.

Getting off to a flying start in his first Regional, Fraser McPherson took 2nd place in the U11 boys G.

Daisy Carter kept Orbit on the podium in G grade, taking 3rd place in the girls 15+, while in the U15s Paige Johnson was 10th at her first Regional.

In F grade, Amy Smith was a fine 3rd in the U15s, and in the over 15s Emily Muttitt was 4th.

At E, Orbit had two qualifiers to D in 1st and 3rd places. Well done Charlie Roberts in the u15 boys and Libby Daniells in the over 15 Ladies.

Finally at D grade, in the over 15 ladies, both Helena Bloomfield and Emily Roxbee Cox competed again, taking 5th and 1st places. Emily wowed the judges, drawing an 8.9 from one, the highest mark of the day.
