Stantonbury Campus student Harry Arksey has won a gold medal representing England at the Danish Cup – badminton’s most prestigious European tournament.
Given that badminton is the Danes’ national sport and it is held on their home soil, Denmark typically dominate the tournament each year.
However, Harry, along with doubles partner David Jones, defeated the much-fancied Danish pairing in the semi-finals before completely destroying their French counterparts 11-3, 11-10, 11-4 in the final to take gold.
It was sweet revenge for Harry and David having lost to the French duo in the final of the Swiss International Tournament the week before, and the victory against the very best players in Europe represents the best win of his career.
Harry, along with his brother Jed Arksey, were also members of the Stantonbury Campus squad who represented England in the World School Badminton Championships, finishing a very creditable 5th, earlier this year.
