Home pride for MMKAC's cross country runners

MMKAC took advantage of having a home fixture for the second Chiltern Cross-Country League based around the Tear-Drops lakes area of the City.

A record 132 athletes competed for them and saw a very convincing victory for the local club scoring 3861pts, 450 ahead of second-based Bedford. This extended their lead to 538pts at the head of the Division One league table.

The club won four of the age group team races and were second in three others. The senior men with no less than 38 runners from the field of 250 stormed to victory ahead of Oxford City and Harrow. Again Steve Tuttle led the scoring ten home, 4th and then in close order came Charles Wheeler(12th), George Wheeler(13th) and Graham Jones (14th). Conrad Webber continued his good form in his first season in the senior race, 20th followed by Jamie Seddon (27th) and James Tuttle (33rd). Steve Herring was 8th scorer, 34th overall and 3rd in the M40 category. Newcomer Stephen Young placed 47th and Mark Palser, 55th completed the scorers.

The senior ladies won their team race ahead of Dacorum and Chiltern Harriers with the scoring six of Lara Bromilow (4th), Wendy Webber (10th), Natasha Baker (14th), Rachel Robinson(15th), Diane Baldwin(28th) and Martinha Royles (40th). Wendy placed 4th in the F35 age group and Diane 3rd in the F55’s. Emma Mears repeated her under 20 ladies race victory from round one at Oxford but had to concede the team race to Bedford. Georgia Flawn-Thomas (7th), Enya Deysel (11th) and Holly Jamieson (18th) completed the scoring team, Holly getting ahead of Anna Kofoed-Gregory on this occasion.

There was a superb 1-2 from Jack Meijer and Ewan Forsythe in the under 17boys race but were narrowly beaten by Bedford in the age group team race. Marcus Lovell(11th) and Harvey Green(19th) completing the scoring foursome.

Another good duel between James Dowsett and Brian Sayle at the head of the under 15 boys, James closed in 4th and Brian 6th on the day for another team win completed by Robert Hickman (9th) and Finlay Gibbs (11th), Leo Freeland 14th, just missed out.

The under 15 girls won the team race ahead of Bedford, with their scorers in the first seven finishers. Barbara De Koning reversed a defeat from Montana Edghill after race one, 2nd here with Montana 5TH, Gemma Milne 6th and Ella Carey 7th.

Chiltern Harriers won the under 13 girls just five points ahead of MK. Charlotte Underwood placed 6th, Jodie Brogden 9th, Chloe Munro 11th and Lily-Mae Smith, 13TH, Ella Nash just outside the scoring team, 14th. There was a dozen under 13boys in club colours competing and were led home by Aidan Murphy (8th) followed by Jack Rose (11th), Alex Brent (19th) and Harry Legg (21st) with Chiltern Harriers again just edging the team race.

In the two non-scoring races for under 11s, Sonja De Koning repeated her win from Oxford with a comfortable run. Annabel Sanders (6th), Jessica Kimpton (23rd) and Hannah Smith (24th) made up the finishing team. The boys race saw Sam Oldroyd (24th), Joshua Stephen s(33rd), Oscar Lozano-Mcinerney (35th) and Max Holland (72nd).

With three matches remaining MMKAC are in a good position to retain their League One title and travel to Luton next month for match three.
