MK Lightning continue to shape their squad for the new season with the news that Chris Wiggins and Nick Chinn will not be returning, while Ross Green has signed on for a fourth season.
Both Nick and Chris – almost universally known as ‘Chinny’ and ‘Wiggy’ throughout the English Premier League – signed for Lightning last summer, both on the back of three seasons with Basingstoke Bison.
Chinn had captained the Herd during his time there, and became alternate captain at Lightning. But with the club moving north to Coventry for the 2013-14 season, both men have decided to seek new challenges closer to their homes in Surrey.
Speaking of both players’ decisions to leave Lightning, head coach Nick Poole said: “I want to thank them for all their efforts and commitment over the past year. We always knew that moving to Coventry would be a stretch for both Chinny and Wiggy, and we respect and understand that it doesn’t work with their professional lives.
“In a short time they have become real favourites with the fans and I know they’ll be missed.”
While they move on, Lightning have agreed terms with 21-year-old defenceman Green to remain at the club.
Green has already become a valuable member of the squad. Under the watchful eye of Poole, he has worked very hard to progress through Milton Keynes’ junior hockey system and has impressed at senior level too.
“It’s great to be coming back for another year,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to next season and whatever challenges it brings!”
