Lightning made a winning start to life in the Coventry Skydome as they beat champions Guildford Flames 5-4 on Saturday.
And they make it a four point weekend with a 6-2 win over Bracknell Bees on Sunday to get the new campaign off to a terrific start.
With just two pre-season games to prepare for the new campaign, Lightning showed no signs of rustiness against Flames as Ross Bowers fired them ahead after 10 minutes. Stan Lascek doubled the lead seven minutes later.
But champions Guildford weren’t going down without a fight and pulled a goal back on 24 minutes through Jozef Kohut before Paul Dixon equalised with 35 minutes gone.
Adam Carr restored Lightning’s lead though with 12 minutes remaining, prompting a frantic finish.
Grant McPherson put Lightning 4-2 up, but Milos Melicherik and Ben Campbell restored parity and sent the game into overtime.
But step forward Tom Carlon, who got on the end of Lascek’s pass to prod home the sudden death winner to seal the 5-4 win for Lightning.
There was no need for overtime in Bracknell on Sunday night though. Despite falling 2-0 down, through goals from former Lightning player Kamil Tvrdek and Lukas Smital.
Lightning were level in the second period though, with goals from Leigh Jameson and another Carlon strike.
Further goals from Jameson, Blaz Emersic, Jordan Cownie and Janne Jolika sealed the 6-2 victory for Lightning.
