Ice hockey returns to Milton Keynes this weekend as MK Lightning battle to regain the Ashes from rivals Peterborough Phantoms.

After making 13 new signings, MKL look forward to showing off the new recruits and although there are no points at stake, Saturday’s game - and the away leg in Bretton on Sunday afternoon - should see the usual fiercely-contested battle for local bragging rights.

As the club’s first pre-season game is away in Basingstoke on Wednesday, Saturday’s match-up will be the first chance for many fans to see the new look Lightning on the ice.

And a lot has changed behind the scenes too. Nick Poole was promoted to club General Manager, with Team GB Head Coach Pete Russell taking over.

“We’ve got targets and everyone knows what they are,” said Russell. “We’ve trained hard to make sure we get things pulled together.

“I don’t think pre-season results will map out our season. Bison and Phantoms are two very good teams to play and they both had good results last year.

“This squad is in good shape; I want us to focus on having the right work ethic and desire and I’m really looking forward to our first home game!”
