Injured Pestell takes win in Belgium

Milton Keynes Knights captain Jez Pestell stormed to an impressive win in the Belgium National Championship at the weekend.

Qualifying for the final as the second highest scorer from the qualifying heats, Pestell made the start only for the race to be stopped for a fallen rider.

Pestell again got a good start in the re-run and after a fierce tussle for the first couple of laps came home leading the other riders by a couple of bike lengths.

But it wasn’t all plain sailing for the captain, who was carrying an injury he picked up in practice on Saturday which destroyed his front wheel and crash helmet and caused severe bruising to his arm.

Unfortunately the injury meant that Pestell had to miss the MK Knights away meeting at Belle Vue yesterday (Monday) where a much depleted team, also missing Rik Mullins through illness, went down to the home side 20-14.

Pestell has declared himself fit for the next meeting on Sunday May 4, on their adopted track at Mildenhall, when the MK Knights will take on fellow championship contenders Kings Lynn.

The meeting starts at 3.30pm with MK Knights following the meeting of the Mildenhall Fen Tigers vs Plymouth Devon Demons.
