Ethan van Leeuwen is certainly making a name for himself on the international stage after his recent success in Germany.
After being selected to represent England, the badminton star beat seed after seed to lift the Refrath Cup in just his second international tournament.
Since picking up the sport when he was eight, Ethan, son of Olympic badminton players Jo Davies and Jurgen van Leeuwen, has hardly looked back, and his success with England is another in a long line of badminton victories.
“Winning the Refrath Cup is a big deal,” said mum Jo, who played for Great Britain at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
“We weren’t out in Germany to watch him, but he’d call us up to tell us how he was doing.
“He told us he’d won a match, then another, then beat the top seat and was into the final.
“For him to win, as a relative outsider, is a fantastic achievement.
“Of course he’s very proud of himself for winning the tournament, and wears his England tracksuit around the house.”
But now though, Ethan must return to Broughton and concentrate on the domestic season and keeping his place in the England side.
